FIG. 1 The three groups and their listed diameter ranges (mm)φ5–φ600 / LOG

From the outer diameter to the machines that can turn it.

Find by diameter

Enter an outer diameter and the machines whose range covers it are shown in blue. The ranges are the diameters (mm) given in our equipment list; the scale is logarithmic.

Machine list

Based on our equipment list: the maker, number of units and diameter range of every model, by group.

Group 1: precision machining

17

NC lathes, and a vertical lathe up to φ600.

At its core are Yamazaki Mazak’s QUICK TURN series NC lathes. The MEGA TURN 600 vertical NC lathe is listed at φ100–φ600, so large-diameter parts fall within this group. The VTC 200 machining center also belongs to this group.

Lot size and diameter decide the group.

How we choose

This table is a guide to which group handles which lot size and diameter. The diameter breaks are listed values; the lot positions are approximate, based on the group names and process descriptions.

Large diameters of φ210–φ600 are taken as prototypes and one-offs, not as volume production. Outer diameters over φ600 are handled by our group companies (ask us).

The diameter breaks (φ10, φ24, φ78, φ120, φ210) are diameters listed in our equipment list. G1–G3 stand for Group 1–3. φ5–φ10 is handled by the NC lathes (G1) and automated mass production (G2). Whether a job counts as volume production or prototype work depends on how often it repeats and on your requirements. Outer diameters over φ600 are handled by our group companies (ask us).

Over φ210

Taken by Group 1 as prototypes and one-offs, not as volume production: QUICK TURN 200-2 (φ10–φ240), QUICK TURN 300 (φ20–φ300) and the MEGA TURN 600 vertical NC lathe (φ100–φ600). Outer diameters over φ600 are handled by our group companies (ask us).

Unmanned

Volume production, unmanned

Group 2 is built around robot-loaded NC and CNC lathes. Our gantry-robot NC lathes run unmanned.

Thrust washers

Volume production of thrust washers

Mass-produced on the single-purpose lathes of Group 3. The loader lines cover φ24–φ78 (listed values for the small-, medium- and large-diameter lines).

Secondary processes

Gardner, centerless grinding, cutting

The Nippei Gardner (up to φ120) and Omiya centerless grinder (up to φ100) work alongside the loader lines on Group 3 volume production. Steel cutting on the AMADA HA250 band saw is also part of the process.
